Text

Nestled right in the heart of Mumbai's financial district in Cuffe Parade Ganesh Murthy Nagar occupies low-lying marshland along an unfinished section of Back Bay. Home to a mix of communities differentiated by religion and caste, the settlement is also home to different occupations. In one pocket lies a thriving dhobi ghat - an open-air laundry industry that caters to the financial district's many five-star hotels and restaurants. Teeming with shook
and other commercial establishments along the public edges, the self-built colony has, over the years, been provided with various forms of services and basic amenities granted by the SIP. Public toilets and water facilities can be found at four locations near the edges of the settlement. Deeper inside, once low-lying pathways flooded with monsoon waters are now paved stone pathways with drains lined by houses of various types and sizes, from small one-room kutcha dwellings to more expansive two-and-three-room pucca structures that contain a mix of residential and workspaces.
