PMGP Colony
PMP Colony is characterised by a cluster of eight-storied mid-rise courtyard blocks that contain houses for two income groups: the 'Economically Weaker Sections' of society (EWS) and the Low-Income Groups (LIG). The dwelling units for the EWS measure 225 square feet (roughly 21 square metres) and form the majority of the units in this colony. For practical reasons and to maximise efficiency, each of the C-shaped courtyard blocks are, in fact, composed of L-shaped floorplates that each contain 11 dwelling units that are mirrored and repeated to maximise space and minimise costs. These units - all identical in size and shape - are accessed by a doubly-loaded corridor serviced by a centrally-located elevator and service core. Each unit is a self-contained studio with a private bathroom, toilet, and kitchen, but the living space and sleeping areas are designed as one. Linear blocks containing units for the LIG complete the three-hectare size and accommodate roughly 1960 units at a plot density that measures a bit more than 650 dwellings per hectare.
