Text

A product of the Global Housing Research Seminar, the story of ‘The Hooded Man of Mickeyleland’ is the result of a micro-ethnographic research based on a student visit to Mickeyleland, known as the most successful example of a condominium neighborhood in Addis Ababa. Beyond traditional investigative methods of architectural disciplines, the graphic novel offers an ethnographic lens that brings attention to the everyday lives of the building’s dwellers. Translated into digitalized sketches, the story is told through the eyes of Tsehai, a Mickeyleland resident who lives in a studio apartment with his family. The narrative depicts Tsehai’s interaction with different dwellers of the condominium, identifying key aspects of their culture and the lifestyle.
