Gerji Co-Habitable Densification : Urbanization & Nostalgia

Recognizing how current housing schemes may often influence a social disconnect between local and incoming inhabitants in new residential settlements, “Gerji Co-Habiatble Densification: Urbanization & Nostalgia” brings attention to need for gentler and more balanced approaches to urban densification. Through a human-centered lens, Zhou takes into account the often overlooked cultural division that residents may experience in standardized condominium typologies, proposing an alternate housing scheme that accommodates both old and new urban dwellers, encouraging their direct participation in the building of their community and fostering a place where their aspirations may serve collective purposes. With a systematic design that is highly flexible on a larger scale, this proposal offers a solution to the current issue of housing shortage, while still taking into consideration future concerns regarding long-term societal factors.
