Text

Housing as a right has to be fought for and not through informal settlements or down squatting but through innovative structures of ownership and sharing strategies. How can access to housing for everyone be secured in a capitalist system without triggering new segregation mechanisms?

A structural framework that consists of a service core and every second floor slab, enables the inhabitants to create their own space, depending on their income and preferred unit size. To avoid forced integration, one tower should only cater for either low- and mid or mid- and high-income groups. However the social spaces or urban commons, the places in between, connect them all.

To ensure that the provided structure can house all income groups, we adopted the principles of the primitive hut and the clothing of space. This can happen in a low budget way, with textiles and mudbricks or sealed with double glazed panorama windows. To achieve a coherent appearance, the facade panels have to be made out of bamboo, brick or ceramics.
